Meet Kelly Skidmore

Kelly Skidmore is a long-time resident of South Florida, having moved to Deerfield Beach with her family in 1972.  She was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006 and was selected to become a member of the House Minority Caucus leadership team, specializing in strategy, appropriations, and health care under the direction of the Minority Leader. In her additional role as Democratic Ranking Member of the Health Care Policy Council and Health Care Appropriations Committee, Kelly developed close working relationships with policy and appropriations committee chairs, staff directors and analysts, and negotiated all caucus health care positions. Despite serious opposition from Republican leadership, Kelly sponsored legislation that passed in 2009 and 2010 that reined in the out of control pain clinics that had become havens for illicit prescription drug trafficking in South Florida, which was featured in a Peabody-award winning documentary, The OxyContin Express.

After her first legislative session, Kelly was honored to be named “Freshman of the Year” by the American Cancer Society. Prior to holding elected office, Kelly served as District Chief to then State Senator Ron Klein for 10 years. Throughout her years working in the legislature, Kelly specialized in issues relating to education, health care, transportation, technology and appropriations.

Kelly is currently the Executive Director of Broward Days, Inc. a non-partisan, not-for-profit advocacy organization, and she is the Public Relations Specialist for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Family Central, Inc. and previously served on the Advisory Committee for the Palm Beach County Area Agency on Aging, the Board of Directors of the Boca Raton Community Relations Committee, the Florida Mid-east Region Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation, the statewide Panel for the Study of End of Life Care, the Dupuytren Foundation, and the Boca Raton Education Committee.

Kelly and her husband Ray live in Boca Raton and are the proud parents of their daughter, MaryAlice.
